Spindle Turning:

This is a one day woodturning course which introduces the client to the safe use of roughing gouges, spindle gouges, parting tools and skew chisels.

Normally, the morning session is devoted to the correct presentation of the cutting edges of these tools to turning wood. The afternoon session is spent in applying the skills acquired during the morning to the turning of a handle for a letterknife or a reading glass which the client is usually able to finish and take home at the end of the day.

Bowl Turning:

This is a one day woodturning course in which the morning session is spent in introducing the client to the correct preparation of a bowl blank prior to turning and the safe use of bowl gouges during the turning of the external and internal faces of a bowl. The afternoon session is comprised of instruction in the turning of a bowl and the safe use of scrapers in readiness for its sanding and finishing. The client is normally able to take home a completely finished bowl at the end of the day.

Sanding, Sealing & Finishing:

This is a half day course which is devoted to the sanding, sealing and finishing of spindle and bowl work. The quality of a turned piece is derived from a combination of turning skills and finishing skills. Many amateur turners fail to capitalise on their turning skills by achieving poor quality finishes for their work. This course seeks to overcome problems of that nature and covers the contributions made by scrapers, abrasives, sealers, lacquers, oils and polishes in bringing about a superior quality finish. The inclusive fee is £45 and further information is  available on request.

An Introduction To More Advanced Woodturning:

This is a two day woodturning course which sets out to introduce the client to the artistic use of contrasting timbers in spindle turning. The first day is given over to the assembly of the blank from contrasting timbers, using accurately turned spigots and bored sockets to connect the individual pieces of timber. The second day is spent in turning the prepared blank to a working drawing of the piece, using internal and external callipers as necessary, and its subsequent completion to a fine finish. The client can normally expect to take home a fully finished piece at the end of the course. This can be an elegant tall candlestick or a stylish table lamp, according to the client's preference. Instruction in long-hole boring will be provided if a table lamp is the preferred option.

If you wish to develop or acquire a particular aspect of woodturning which is NOT covered by any of the above, please let me know as it may be possible to put together a tailor-made course to meet your requirements.
